Costa Rica – Finca Las Gravileas (Fair Trade, Organic)
Price: $12.85
Product Information Deep, rich and creamy with a caramel sweetness and notes of lemon, apple and milk chocolate. Wicked Joe visited the famed Tarrazu region of Costa Rica in search of great coffees and we were not disappointed. Our top "find" in Tarrazu was this outstanding coffee. Upon arriving at the farm we were greeted by the sweet smell of honey and nuts coming from a patio of "honeyed" or pulped natural coffee drying in the bright sun - just a small amount to test the possibilities for next year's crop. Our hosts were father and son Roberto and Fabrizio Marin whose farm is situated at an altitude of just over 5900 feet on the steep side of a mountain looking out across a valley at more scenic mountains covered with coffee farms. Orange trees are scattered over the farm and it was a treat to pick oranges and munch happily while hiking through this beautiful farm. Note: This farm is about 12 hectares and produces around 250 bags a year total. This coffee is from a micro lot of coffee that while certified Fair Trade and Organic, was segregated from the rest of this farms coffee (as well as kept separate from the rest of AFORCA's FTO coffee). Wicked Joe visited this farm during their harvest in February.
